For Idiosyncratic Fashionistas, growing old gracefully is an outdated concept. They prefer growing old with verve. On a visit to Manhattan, I met with Valerie and Jean, the dynamic duo also known as Idiosyncratic Fashionistas for Sunday brunch at Lafayette in Soho.
Their motto is to embrace their gray hair while sharing the playground nicely with their younger siblings. They explore what’s out there for Women of a Certain Age.
Because fashion is communication and a reflection of one's individuality, their style says a lot. I genuinely admire people who express themselves freely like Jean and Valerie, by picking small and emerging designers instead of the big ones – a choice for most, because they are safe. Their style is based on mixing and matching contrasting colors and designs.
Jean was wearing a coat from a small artisanal brand from Zagreb, Igor. Her hat is a statement piece.
Valerie had fantastic print trousers and an oversized black coat; her glasses are also a statement piece and personal signature.
They didn’t disappoint with their upbeat approach to life. We talked about everything from personal life, family, values, fashion, politics, and inclusivity. No topic was off limits. I enjoyed every moment with these two stunning ladies.
