NYFW MULTICULTURALISM AND RESPECT FOR THE OTHER

Posted by Michelle Tsau on

Fashion weeks are not just about brands presenting new collections. It is about storytelling in a global world of information: social awareness, climate change, daily political statements,  humans merging with technology, etc.

Fashion messages are the most powerful global visual statement, and what can we say about this crazy world from a designer's perspective? We went to New York fashion week, and among well-known and highly signature brands like Proenza Schouler, Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors, Anna Sui, we had a chance to be at the Dur Doux show.

African-American mother-daughter designer duo brings a sense of multiculturalism, cultural diversity, and respect for the Other. We enjoyed a colorful and visually thrilling collection from Dur Doux. Their fearless use of bright colors from Africa, combined with exciting shapes and deconstructed details, made this collection a visual delight. During Black History Month, AVANT GARDIST is happy to spotlight African-American designers and their contribution to the world of fashion.
